Is The Gospel, Word Only?

Week after week we tend to find ourselves in the same traditional routine of every day living. We get up early, go to work, come home and eat supper, go to bed and find ourselves rising to another day to accomplish what we just did the day before.

It seems people of this day are programmed to a system the world has established. Not only has this system been programmed into our everyday way of living, but has also been carried over into the church world in general.

I once heard a minister say, "We as believers are influenced by the world more than we actually think." The system of things move so rapidly and cleverly that we don't even notice. This is why Apostle Paul said, "Be not conformed to this world." (Rom. 12:2a). The thought of this should make us more sober to the Word, and how it really should be working and manifesting itself in the lives of believers.

To get a clearer picture of what I am saying, let's look at how people have been influenced by the world system concerning "Deliverance". The world teaches the masses to prescribe to medicines for relief in sickness and pain. It also teaches to seek out the most professional psychologist, if you have a mental condition, marital problem, or social imbalance in life. We have loan officers and financal advisers to settle our financal needs and matters. If we seem to think we have been taken by any of the above individuals, we then have the lawyers of the land that will help us in our legal affairs. This clever way of deliverance isn't the establishment that God set forth for the believer.

The church world as a whole to some degree has been sucked into this system that does not allow the Word to move and operate the way it was intended too. Maybe this hasn't effected you or your church in any way, but at some point many people and churches have unknowingly fallen into a trap of programs, activities, and Word only without any action or demostration. Many times people attend church sick in body, possessed with devils, financially needing an answer from God, families in turmoil and many times they go home from church the same way they came. Therefore I ask, "Is the gospel, Word only, or is it a Word of demostration and power, that should control every aspect of those that believe?"

Apostle Paul says, (Rom. 1:6)"I am not ashamed of the gospel of Christ; for it is the power of God unto salvation (deliverance) to everyone that believeth." The word salvation means, "A complete deliverance." This is what Christ did in our behalf. He made a way for the believer to be delievered. I challenge you to read this verse of scripture over and over, until it really sinks in.

The reason Paul wasn't ashamed of the gospel is he knew by revelation that it worked. He knew if he prayed for someone, they would be healed. He knew if he gave to the Lord his tithe, he would be blessed. He knew if he would preach the gospel, that it would increase. He knew if he cast out devils in the name of Jesus Christ, they would have to leave. He knew if he did anything in the name of Jesus Christ, it would be fulfilled. That's why he wasn't ashamed of the gospel of Jesus Christ. He trusted and believed in the power of God's Word.

In the first book of the Thessalonians, Apostle Paul set forth what the model church should be, and explains clearly how the gospel came. (Verse 5a). "For our gospel came not unto you in word only, but also in power, and in the Holy Ghost, and in much assurance." The assurance that he had in the Word, manifested itself and came alive. Once again this is why he wasn't ashamed of the gospel of Christ.

Jesus while on earth, openly professed the effects of the "good news". In Matthew chapter eleven, he sent news back to John saying, "The blind receive their sight, and the lame walk, the lepers are cleansed, and the deaf hear, the dead are raised up, and the poor have the gospel preached to them; and blessed is he, whosoever shall not be offended in me." In a effective way, Jesus was showing forth the abilities of a true and living Word, and how it is demonstrated with power.

Understanding that Apostle Paul was the first church age messenger, we can see by his message and example that he was leading the apostolic believer to a greater revelation and relationship with our Lord Jesus Christ. Showing that we serve in "Newness of Spirit, not in the Oldness of the Letter". We have past from death unto life through Christ Jesus our Lord, and His Word is now made effective in those that believe.

Therefore now we can appropriate, not by tradition, not by a systematic way, not by the creeds and desire of man, but by Faith in God's Word. The demonstrative Word says, "In my name (Jesus Christ) shall they cast out devils, they shall speak with new tongues, they shall take up serpents, and if they drink any deadly thing, it shall not harm them, they shall lay hands on the sick, and they shall recover." This my friend is a Gospel of Power and Demostration. May God bless you!
