I believe Bro. E.W. Kenyon, the author of the book entitled, "Two Kinds of Life" said it best when he wrote,
"Sense Knowledge has gained the supremacy over Christianity and dominates it". With this statement we must understand that
the term "Christian" is defined as individuals professing to be followers of Christ.
When Christ came and begin to choose His followers, He called them "Disciples". It wasn't until after the Cross
that the gentiles begin to call the disciples of Christ, "Christians" (Acts 11:26) . This identified them and set them apart
from all idolatry and worldly religions, for their lives were totally dedicated to Christ.
Today most individuals concept of Christianity doesn't pattern after Biblical principles, or what I will call "Discipleship".
The church world in general, has taken the divine leadership of the Holy Spirit out of the picture and has adopted a sense
knowledge Christianity that teaches the masses a false doctrine of what Christianity really is. Apostle Paul singles out the
concept of todays Christians in II. Tim. 4:3-4, "For the time will come when they will not endure sound doctrine; but after
their own lusts shall heap to themselves teachers, having itching ears. And they shall turn away their ears from the
truth, and shall be turned unto fables". This one verse defines what Christianity is, for a lot of so-called believers. "Denying
sound doctrine and turning their ear from the truth that has been revealed for their age."
With this thought in mind, let us consider "Biblical Christianity". What experience or life is a Christian instructed
to profess and live? Is it to be a life of self-feeling and opinion, or is it taken from our own thoughts and attitudes toward
God?
The true facts of a Christian life isn't as easy and simple as most individuals think. To be a disciple of Christ
we must be willing to follow after Him regardless of the cost. One of the attributes of following Christ is "Forsaking". Jesus
said in St. Luke 14: 26-(33) " If any man come to me, and hate not his father, and mother, and wife, and children, and brethren,
and sisters, yea, and his own life also, he cannot be my disciple. (33) So, likewise, whosoever he be of you that forsaketh
not all that he hath, he cannot be my disciple." This may seem unlike Jesus to make such a bold statement, but we must realize
the point He was getting across, and that point is, "I am the way, the truth and the life, no man cometh unto the Father,
but by me. (St. John 14:6)
Your access to God is only through Christ Jesus and Him alone. It is not through your church membership, nor through
traditional background, nor through the experiences you have had with God, nor through your family or friends. It comes to
us one way, and the avenue is by "Forsaking all and depending on Christ." This truth takes away the carnal idea of just "doing
your best". Your best will never be good enough. Jesus told us to continue in His word, not do your best! (St. John 8:31)
Its amazing to find most men in this day professing Christianity when their lives are so far from the Word
of God and failing to forsake, obey, and abide in Christ as their absolute. It's a broad view "Sense Knowledge Christianity"
that has covered the main stream religious world. They are preaching a feel good, get rich, and enjoy clean entertainment
with the beat of the world that will keep our young people from going astray message, and it no more resembles the gospel
of Jesus Christ, then a candle stick resembles the noon day sun. II. Cor. 6:17 says, "Come out from among them, and be ye
separate (forsake these things) saith the Lord, and touch not the unclean thing, and I will receive you!"
Being a Christian isn't just a Bible in our homes and church on Sunday morning. It's a life that is liberated
through the grace and knowledge of our Lord Jesus Christ. Examine your own self, prove your own self, and know your own self,
how that Jesus Christ is in you except ye be reprobates (II. Cor. 13:5). By applying the principals that are set before us
we will began to see the facts of our Spiritual Growth.
